In algebra we moved on to a new lesson. relations and domains, This lesson determined the x and the y points. Along with if they are a function by using graphs, mapping diagram, and a table. I learned that if you see a repeated number you only need to write it down once. I also learned that a function means that each domain (x value) has only 1 range (y value)
The last method to solve inequalities algebraically is to use the elimination method
elimination method: step 1) if necessary, multiply one or both equations by a number so that the coefficients of a chosen variable are opposites 2x+2y=6 3x-2y=4 step 2)add the equations 2x+2y=6 step 3)find the value of one variable by solving the equation from step 2 2x+2y=6 +3x-2y=4 5x=10 5 = 5 x=2 step 4)substitute either x or y back into one of the original equations 2(2)+2y=6 4+2y=6 -4 -4 2y=2 y= 1 step 5) write your solution as an ordered pair (x,y) (2,1) 10/2 /14
There are 3 methods to solve inequalities the first algebraic method is called substitution. Substitution is the method where we substitute (plug in) a equation into the inequality and solve. Solving By Substitution: step 1)substitute one of the equations into the other equation y=3x y=1x-2 3x=1x-2 step 2)solve the equation to get the value of the first variable 1x-2=3x -1x -1x -2 =2x 2 = 2 -1=x step 3)substitute the value into one of the original equations and solve for the other variable y=3(-1) y=-1 step 4)write values as an ordered pair (x,y) (-1,-3) |
